To determine the hand of lockset that you need. If your door swings into the room, such as a bedroom door, or exterior door, open the door against the wall, stand with your back against the door. if the handle is on your left side it is a left handed lock. On the right side it is a right handed lock. If the door is on a closet door such as a coat closet or linen closet that swings out away from the closet, and not into the closet, the handing of the lock would be opposite than above.
